Tipi/Tepee/Teepee...However you choose to spell it, when you buy a tipi from us you will get the best quality materials.
All of our tipis follow a traditional Sioux design & are handmade at our workshop in West Cornwall.
Outer Liner.
We use 12oz canvas. The outside skin is usually natural white (however we are open to requests...we have seen bright yellow with blue detail, striped tipis, and pretty much everything in between!) Our canvas is all water, rot and fire resistant to British safety requirements, meaning your tipi will keep you dry on a wet day, snug on a cold day and lovely and cool on a warm day. We hand sew the lacepin holes (seen here on the left) which run up the front of the tipi, giving a beautiful extra detail
Inner Liner.
Our tipis also have an inner liner which hangs from a thin rope about 5ft high, the liner also has a pvc strip around the bottom which tucks under the groundsheet and coir matting, stopping any cool breezes getting through and also stopping the canvas from getting damp should your tipi be in heavy use or left up through bad weather, the liner can be taken down on warmer summer evenings but is useful to help smoke to draw up through the smoke flaps if you wish to have an open fire.
Rain Hat/Catcher.
All of our tipis, whether for hire or sale, come with either a rain catcher or a rain hat. The rain catcher hangs inside the tipi, just below the smoke hole, guiding any water safely out while still allowing smoke to draw through, so you can have a fire without getting wet. A rain hat sits externally on top of the poles and is a more permanent solution, stopping water from entering altogether. It is propped up with an extended pole above the structure.
We’re happy to supply either option and advise on what will work best for your setup. For self-install rain hats, you’ll need a long ladder and a saw to trim poles once erected, and we provide full guidance and support.
Pegs, Pins, Ropes.
We supply all our tipis with handmade ash pegs for the outer canvas and tent pegs for the inner liner. You will also receive all the ropes and ties you will need for building the tipi structure and hanging the liner as well as handmade willow lace pins.
Poles.
Our tipi poles are all sustainably sourced from a local Forestry Commission managed forest,. The poles are mainly Douglas Fir which is renowned for its durability and strength. We lovingly peel and sand each pole to ensure they give you years of use.
Groundsheets.
Our groundsheets are heavy duty, tarpaulins and 100% waterproof. Each are cut to the size of your tipi and heat-sealed to ensure durability. We are able to cut a fire hole at no extra cost should you wish. Avaiable in almost any colour you could wish for! (try us!).
Inner raincatcher
You will need help to set up most tipi sizes, please also bare in mind that if you have a rain hat and are doing a self set up you will need a long ladder which reaches the top of the tipi from outside and a saw to cut the poles down when it is in situ, we offer full instructions and support for this! You will need to drill holes in the base of the tipi poles to fit wind pegs if we supply /you order wind pegs
(full instructions and advice provided)
